Celebrating Pride Month

EMBRACING LOVE, TAKING ACTION, AND ADVOCATING FOR EQUALITY

Part 11: Confessions of a Web Professional

Pride Month is a cherished time that radiates celebration, acceptance, and love for both the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.

img_4840-1As a proud parent of a child who identifies as LGBTQ+ and with other close family who are part of the community, their personal journeys have been transformative for our entire family.

These experiences have taught us the immeasurable worth of empathy, understanding, and the incredible power of love. Throughout their journey, I have stood as a steadfast ally, creating a safe and nurturing environment where they have always known they are unconditionally embraced and accepted.

However, as an ally, I realized that my role extends beyond acceptance within our family. Being an ally goes beyond offering support and saying, “I’m here for you.” It is about listening and learning about current issues, speaking up even if it makes you feel comfortable. It’s about actively getting our hands dirty, and advocating for the rights and equality of LGBTQ+ individuals.

In today’s world, where there are still people in our own cities trying to strip away the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, it is crucial for allies to step up and speak out. Pride Month serves as a reminder of the ongoing work that needs to be done to ensure a more inclusive and equitable society.

Pride Month provides an opportunity for allies to engage in conversations, attend events, and show up for protests or rallies that fight against discrimination and inequality. By actively participating in these efforts, we can create a safer and more accepting world for our loved ones and future generations.

I am immensely proud of my family, and I am committed to fighting for a more inclusive society. This Pride Month, let’s embrace love, celebrate diversity, and stand up against injustice. Together, we can create a world where every individual, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can live their truth with pride and dignity.
